Tomorrow we will read the Gospel lesson about Zaccheus, which signals that the period of the Triodion and Great Lent are fast approaching!
Next weekend, the Triodion will be processed from the iconostasis to the chanter's stand, where it will remain from that remembrance of the Publican and Pharisee until the night of Holy Pascha on April 24. The week after next is a fast-free week leading up to the Sunday of the Prodigal Son, followed by Meatfare Sunday when we meditate on the Last Judgment and put away meat from our diets.
As such, it's time to begin cleaning out our refrigerators and freezers, but more importantly the cold and darkened chambers of our hearts. The Light of Christ shines on all, but we are only warmed by His rays when we approach Him diligently with fear, faith, and love. May we find nourishment to accomplish this through the fruits of repentance grown from the seeds of the Lenten Triodion, by our prayerful efforts and God's immeasurable grace.
